Recipes and Stuff

Woooooooooohoooooooooo! So happy for Ashley's bonus! Tim, I hope you're still asleep as I type this (12:46pm).

I went to this site today and it was actually very helpful. The first four pages of the download are the same things we've already gotten. Pages 11 - 23 are actual recipes so I printed them out to look through.

Question:

Anyone know the difference between 'rolled oats' and regular oatmeal?

I think the apple blueberry oatmeal cereal looks good:
2 sweet apples
3/4 cup rolled oats
1 cup blueberries
1/2 cup almonds
1 cup apple juice
Cook oats as directed on box. Chop or grind almonds, chop apples - combine. Add blueberries. Top with sprinkle of nutmeg, cinnamon and apple juice.

They also have a recipe for tomato sauce, vegetarian chili, mashed pinto beans on whole grain taco shells, some italian, french, and vinaigrette dressings.

Anyone ever heard of 'polenta'? They have polenta biscuits that might be tasty.

Anyway, Doug and I are supposed to sit down Saturday and figure out some meals so when I go grocery shopping on Monday we can have the right kinds of foods hanging around. I might post what we end up getting in case anyone is interested in some food to buy!

Sorry, I don't know how to get rid of the 'supermom' name. It's my name on our family blog site :)

Hey do you guys want to get together on Saturday sometime and share ideas together and what to buy? We may go to TraderJoe's or EarthFare to pick up a lot of stuff? Just let us know!

Sorry Tim, we're supposed to be at Doug's families house on Saturday to celebrate his dads birthday. Is there Trader Joe's around here? We looked and couldn't find it on their website. Let us know what you end up getting and maybe we'll try it next week...
I think we'll probably do a lot of fruits, a few veggies, and try some recipes from the fast booklet on-line.

Laurina, there is a Trader Joe's on Rea Rd. in Charlotte. It hasn't been there very long.

Polenta is boiled cornmeal. I guess you could call it Italian grits :-). The good thing about polenta is that you can shape it into balls and fry it. I've never tasted it myself, but I've had Italian friends who raved about it.

Rolled oats are the regular oatmeal that you buy in the round cardboard Quaker box. The instant stuff in the packets is often precooked and cut thinner so that it will cook more quickly. Basically, the instant is more processed, which is what you want to avoid on this fast.

Yes, one right as you turn on Rea Rd coming off Hwy 51. 10 minutes from church.
